16th Stop: St Hilda's Anglican Church

Perhaps it was fate but the group ended up before a church. The boys brought the girls in and led them before the altar.

Built in 1934, this church is designed after a simple parish English church style. One unique feature of this church is the conical tower built in Victorian tradition. It is one of the first churches in Katong and Joo Chiat area, even earlier then the Church of Holy Family. It served as one of the initial place of worship for Eurasians in this area who are mostly Christians.

At this stop we realize we have in fact visited 3 religious places of worship, from Christianity to Muslim and to Buddhism. This fact brought us enlightenment of how multi-racial/multi-religious Katong and Joo Chiat actually is. Through this historical religious landmark, we understand in face of work and life in the past, people do yearn for religion and a place to reflect, a place to worship.

"We want to spend the rest our lives with you and swear to love you till the very end. Will you be willing to let us do just that? Will you marry us?"

"Hmmmmm.....YES!" the girls replied.

And thus, the final chapter of the katong love story was finally written!
