15th Stop: LOTUS @ joo Chiat

After they left the house, they passed by this unique looking complex which turned out to be a unique combination of shops and homes.

The Lotus @ Joo Chiat are excellent examples of integrating and conserving old shop houses into new working offices. Built in 1930, the exterior of the shop houses are kept to elude an air of elegance.

Acclaimed as a architectural masterpiece, it received the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Architectural Heritage Award in 2002 for their excellent restoration.

Situated along Everitt road, besides the al-famous Fei Fei wan ton mee opposite, The lotus @ Joo Chiat stands out among the old shophouses as one that is of elegance and well-maintaned. At first look we all thought it was just a place of residence, and maybe it was a new hotel, but we were all wrong when we discovered it was actually offices. Unanimously, while leaving The Lotus, we all began to wonder how cool will it be to be able to work in such structures next time.

[Guys peeping into the interior through the mail box, while the girls goes snapping away!]

"Oh look how beautiful these homes are! It is every girl's dream to spend the rest of her life with her partner in such a beautiful home!" one of the girls said in envy.

"Noted" the boys said.
